Daniel Shepherd Notes eBook Stephen B Miller
I own several commentaries in this series. Miller has a very approachable writing style. The author treats Daniel as a divinely inspired work. From a conservative theological standpoint he is doctrinally sound.
This is not a verse-by-verse exegesis, but instead employs a "pericope" method of explaining scripture. In other words, instead of digging into the minutia of each verse, the author examines small blocks of several verses together. Around 5-7 verses are in a block, grouped logically by thought.
What's nice about the "pericope" approach is that you as a reader can quickly grasp the big points in the passages. I used this to prepare for an adult bible class where we did an overview of Daniel's life in 2 lessons. It was so engaging, that I read the whole book very quickly.
Highly recommended for bible class teachers and bible students who are ready to dig deeper.

Daniel Shepherd Notes eBook Stephen B Miller Reviews
I liked the book it gave me a better understanding
Great book, I would recommend for all levels of students
Needed this book for a class I was taking and this was the cheapest place I found it. Excellent content in the book and highly recommend while looking to further your study into the very important book of Daniel. God Bless!
I just finished reading Miller's work and I about ran my highlighter dry! Miller was very informative (including ample footnotes) and was easy to read. He writes from a conservative and premillennial perspective. I disagree with his conclusion that Daniel's "70 weeks" began with the decree to Ezra in 458BC (p263). I contend it began in 444BC with Artaxerxes decree to Nehemiah - largely based on my bias for a 33AD date for Christ's crucifixion. However, this is a relatively small issue. Miller handled the text incredibly well throughout.
Here is a random quote from something I highlighted concerning Dan. 927
"If the sixty-nine sevens conclude with Christ's first coming and the final seven (seven years) is terminated by Christ's return, there must be an interval of time between the end of the sixty-ninth and the beginning of the seventieth seven. The text also indicates that the seventieth seven would not follow the sixty-ninth immediately. For example, Christ's crucifixion ("Anointed One ... cut off," v. 26) and the subsequent destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 (v. 26) would occur after the sixty-ninth seven, but not during the seventieth seven (v. 27), revealing a gap between these sevens." (p269)
While not exhaustive, this commentary provides all the basics from a conservative Christian viewpoint. I'm currently reading through three different commentaries on Daniel, while leading a bible study, and have found this volume to be well worth the money spent. I highly recommend this.
I needed this book for a class that only had it as an ebook and I needed a regular book to study. It was in excellent condition.
This is a well-written book that combines technical analysis with practicality. The technical parts are quite readable and understandable. While I may not be theologically in agreement with some parts of the prophetic aspects of the commentary, it does help the biblical student understand the issues and gives that practical nature to the understanding of Scripture that makes it come alive.
